Fort Hood, TX

LEED Consultant:

Chip Henderson

Project Goal:

In 2010, Fort Hood Family Housing completed an 83 home expansion of an existing Fort Hood family community, Wainwright Heights. Fort Hood is a 339 square mile military installation located in Central Texas, approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin. Fort Hood Family Housing’s vision is to "provide a living experience for our residents that instills a deep sense of pride in our communities and is recognized as "The best place they ever lived." To achieve this goal FHFH teamed up with Actus Lend Lease, a national leader in public/private community development.

The LEED for Homes green rating system provided a perfect “common green language” the entire project team could use in developing a smart solution that protects the environment, creates significant social returns and delivers superior financial results. Contects worked with the project team through the design and construction phases to ensure both the intent and application of the LEED rating tool delivered the desired triple value. This project is currently part of the largest LEED Silver community throughout all Army military installations and the largest in the state of Texas. By focusing on creating sustainable value, Actus Lend Lease and Fort Hood Family Housing created a community unrivaled in attention to design, technology and environmental sensitivity.
