Sky Fire at North Fork

Client:

Location:

Hunt, TX

LEED Consultant:

Chip Henderson

Builder:

Green Rater:

Project Goal:

Designed by one of Texas’ leading “Green” architects; Laverne Williams of Environment Associates of Houston, this home participated in the pilot phase of the USGBC residential green rating system – LEED for Homes. Normally green building programs help to inform and guide the project team. In this case, the experience of the architect and builder helped to inform and shape the early versions of the LEED for Homes green building program. “Ironically, we were not trying to achieve LEED Certification as the USGBC program wasn't available when we started its design. We were just creating a home for the quality of life our client desired to have at home using our signature Design for Passive Sustainability concepts and methodologies.” Laverne Williams, AIA

Solution:

A beautiful view to the west challenged the architect, but the final design resulted in a stunning home with a large deck and large overhangs to protect the living areas from the west Texas sun suspended above the north fork of the Guadalupe River. An Arts and Crafts interior adds to the refined, yet comfortable spaces. Additional features included:

Whole house Rainwater Catchment system
Screened Porch
Arts and Crafts interior styling
Large overhanging deck with magnificent views of the North Fork of the Guadalupe River, and
"100% rainwater harvesting, and energy bills and views that are the envy of their neighbors"
