Project Goal:

The ideas that help inform this design for a family home in the Lower Ninth Ward were based on five environmental / cultural imperatives:First, acknowledging the historical New Orleans residential typologies as the basis for a contemporary New Orleans home. Second, inverting the typical pitched roof to become a solar and water collector, and offering the roof as a shaded terrace. Third, transforming traditional African textiles into a panelized pattern. Fourth, reinforcing the house structure to withstand the additional forces of hurricane winds and flooding.Fifth, applying responsible design strategies for long term environmental benefit.
