Project Goal:

The Bancroft School is a historic elementary school built in 1909 and located in the Manheim Park neighborhood of Kansas City, MO. Manheim Park has seen decades of disinvestment and a number of the dilapidated buildings in the neighborhood have already been demolished. The Bancroft School takes up a half city block, is approximately 100,000 square feet on a 2.7 acres site, and because of its scale, its redevelopment is critical to the transformation of the neighborhood.

Solution:

Dalmark Development Group, LLC is working to convert the historic elementary school into 29 units of housing with an additional 21 new construction units built on the site, for a total of 50 affordable homes for families and individuals. Through the community charette process with BNIM Architects and Green Impact Zone staff, approximately 6,250 square feet of the school has been identified as community space for the neighborhood.

Dalmark is also working with Make it Right Foundation (MIR), a Non-profit Housing Development organization formed by Brad Pitt, and Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City to rehab the existing, and build new homes in the surrounding neighborhood. To stand out from other affordable housing communities, these new and renovated homes will utilize the LEED for Homes green rating system to guide the design and construction team.
