Project Goal:

Designed by one of Texas’ leading “Green” architects; Barley & Pfeiffer of Austin, this home participated in the pilot phase of the USGBC residential green rating system – LEED for Homes. Normally green building programs help to inform and guide the project team. In this case, the experience of the architect and builder helped to inform and shape the early versions of the LEED for Homes green building program. Everyone benefits when the project team understands high performance is not just energy efficiency, but includes indoor air quality, durability, human comfort, maintainability, functionality, and respect for the local site and climatic conditions.

Solution:

This Hill Country home was designed with large overhangs and awnings to help protect it from the afternoon Texas sun. In addition, the home features:
Hard surface flooring throughout
High efficiency HVAC with fresh air ventilation system
Local natural stone exterior and metal roof
Energy Star Certified w/Indoor Air Package & Advanced Lighting Package
HERS Rating of 60
BioBase Soy Sprayed Foam Insulation
